Sludgineers System Requirements for PC, Mac and Linux

Sludgineers needs very little. A 2.0 GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM, about 1 GB of storage and a DirectX 11/12 or Vulkan capable GPU. It runs natively on Windows 10/11 x64, macOS Sequoia or later, and Ubuntu 24 LTS or newer.

Sludgineers minimum system requirements

Steam lists a single set of requirements for Sludgineers rather than separate minimum and recommended tiers, which tells you something in itself: this is a 2D pixel-art game and it does not scale up into anything demanding. If your machine can open a modern web browser comfortably, it can run Sludgineers.

Can my PC run Sludgineers?

Almost certainly. The only two lines that realistically exclude anyone are the 64-bit requirement and the 8 GB of RAM. A 32-bit Windows install will not work at all. A machine with 4 GB of RAM is under the stated bar, though a 2D game of this size will often still run — just don't expect support if it doesn't.

If you genuinely cannot install anything, remember there is a free browser version of Sludgineers that sidesteps hardware questions entirely.

Running Sludgineers on macOS

There is a native macOS build, which is not a given for small indie releases. The stated floor is macOS Sequoia or later on an M1 chip or an Intel equivalent. That Sequoia requirement is the strictest single line in the whole spec sheet — it rules out Macs stuck on older OS versions even when the hardware would be perfectly capable.

On an M-series Mac, Sludgineers runs natively rather than through Rosetta, so battery drain and fan noise are both minimal. It is a good candidate for a MacBook you take to a cafe.

Running Sludgineers on Linux

Sludgineers ships a native Linux build, not just a Proton-compatible Windows one. Steam lists Ubuntu 24 LTS or newer with a Vulkan-capable GPU. Users on Arch, Fedora or other non-Ubuntu distributions typically report no trouble with games specced this way, though Ubuntu 24 LTS is what the developers actually test against.

GamingOnLinux covered Sludgineers during its demo period, which is a reasonable signal that the Linux build gets attention rather than being an afterthought.

What about Steam Deck?

Valve has not issued a Steam Deck compatibility rating for Sludgineers as of 26 August 2026 — there is no Verified or Playable badge on the store page. The hardware is far above the requirements, and Steam lists full controller support, so it is likely to work; it simply has not been through Valve's review.
