Sludgineers Quests: How They Work and What They Pay
Sludgineers quests live on a QUESTS tab beside UPGRADES and run in parallel with everything else. They set objectives such as “Refine 35 barrels of Dracium Sludge” and pay flat cash rewards — $3,000 in that observed case — for work you would largely be doing anyway.

Where quests live
Open the meta screens between Sludgineers jobs and you will see two tabs at the top: UPGRADES and QUESTS. That placement is deliberate — quests are a parallel progression track, not a side attraction buried in a menu. A quest card shows an icon for the target material, a progress counter, a one-line objective and the reward.

What Sludgineers quests ask for
The confirmed example is a refining objective: “Refine 35 barrels of Dracium Sludge”, tracked at 25/35 with a $3,000 reward. That tells us several useful things about the system:
- Quests target named materials. Dracium Sludge is a specific pollution type, not a generic resource, so which jobs you take affects which quests progress.
- They track cumulatively. The 25/35 counter fills through normal play; you do not have to do anything special once a quest is active.
- They pay flat cash. $3,000 is a substantial sum at the stage where a refining quest of that size appears.
- They tie the refinery to progression. A refining quest cannot be completed by cleaning alone — you need refinery throughput. See refinery automation.
Using quests as an income stream
Quest cash is the closest thing Sludgineers has to free money. You are already cleaning jobs and already refining materials; the quest board simply pays you a bonus for hitting totals you were going to hit. Treat it as a routine:
- Check the board before each session. Know what is currently being tracked.
- Let it break ties. When two jobs look similarly profitable, take the one carrying the pollution type your active quest needs.
- Keep the refinery fed. Refining quests stall if raw material sits unprocessed.
- Bank rewards into multipliers. A $3,000 lump sum spent on a Completion Cash multiplier keeps paying; spent on a flat upgrade it does not. See upgrade order.
Quests in the full game versus the demo
Steam's demo listing states plainly that the demo “limits available content including regions, levels, quests, and upgrades”, and the developers' launch announcement lists quests among what the full release expanded. Demo players see the system; full-game players see the whole board.
This matters because quests scale with the game's later content. The full release added additional pollution types, and quests target pollution types by name — more materials means a wider and more varied quest board. See sludge types and refined resources.
Do quests affect achievements?
Sludgineers has 25 achievements, none of them missable, and the community rates the difficulty at about 1 out of 10 with most unlocking simply through normal play. Quest completion is exactly the kind of cumulative progression that tends to carry achievements in a game structured this way, and since nothing is missable there is no risk in simply playing through.
