What you get for the money

One purchase, one complete game. Sludgineers has no deluxe edition, no soundtrack bundle, no DLC and no microtransactions. Buying it gets you the full region list, the complete upgrade tree, the refinery with automation, vacuum drones, air purifiers, the quest board, power-ups, all 25 Steam achievements, Steam Cloud saves and Steam Family Sharing.

It is also localised into 14 languages, including Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Polish, Turkish and Ukrainian — unusually thorough for a two-person indie release at this price.

Is $6.99 good value for Sludgineers?

Sludgineers runs about 5–6 hours to a full 100% completion with all 25 achievements. At $6.99 that is roughly a dollar an hour; at the $5.59 launch price it is closer to 90 cents. For a cozy game you will finish over a weekend, that is a fair rate and comfortably better than most short indie releases.

The honest counterweight: 5–6 hours is short, and once the upgrade tree is exhausted there is no prestige loop to restart the curve. The developers have prestige on a “consider” list for post-release updates but have not committed to it. Will Sludgineers go on sale again?
